Rick Pearce

McDowell Sonoran Conservancy
Rick Pearce has led research, engineering, intellectual property management, and licensing efforts across the globe. As corporate VP, he managed research centers in four countries, dedicated to materials science advancements for the automotive, railway, aerospace, and defense industries. During his career, he represented Abex, Honeywell, and Black & Decker at the Industrial Research Institute. Rick served on a NASA task force for the commercial utilization of space. He also developed and contracted with the University of California (Berkeley) and Caltech for advanced materials science research.

Mr. Pearce received a BS in Chemistry at the State University of New York and an MS in polymer chemistry at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Since retiring, he has served as a volunteer with Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Conservancy. As chair of its Guided Hike Program, he expanded it to add mountain biking. He has participated in citizen science efforts, including mule deer collaring, prairie falcon monitoring, and numerous bird surveys. He mentors new stewards, is active in the Conservancy’s pathfinding and patrol programs, and continues as a hike leader. He served on the Conservancy’s Education Strategy Committee. He has provided nearly 5,000 hours of volunteer service to the Conservancy.
