Rae Mooney

City of Port Aransas
Rae Mooney is the City of Port Aransas Nature Preserve Manager.  Rae was hired in 2019 and has continued many of the grants and projects Colleen began following Hurricane Harvey.  Rae is working on projects to expand the Nature Preserve and increase connectivity between sites.  Habitat management and invasive species removal are also priorities for the Nature Preserve.  In 2019, Port Aransas was certified as a Bird City Texas community by Texas Parks & Widlife Department and Audubon Texas.  Rae serves as the coordinator and has been working with partners to expand education and outreach on the various threats to birds within cities.  Previously Rae worked as a Project Manager at the Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program and as a Research Scientist at the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute.  She has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Towson University and a Master of Science in Marine Science from the University of Texas at Austin.
